Kevin McNeal, Guitarist

Photo of KevinKevin is recognized not only as an outstanding performer and recording artist, but also as an educator, composer, arranger, and author. Born in Troy, New York in 1958, Kevin started playing at 14. At 15 he joined the jazz ensemble at Albany High School and also began playing professionally. He attended the Berklee School of Music where he studied performance and arranging. Kevin received his Bachelor of Music from Willliam Paterson University in Wayne, New Jersey.

Performance and recording credits include Rufus Reid, David Liebman, James Williams, Royal Hartigan, Nick Brignola, Steve Swallow, Cecil Bridgewater, Ed Wiley Jr., Greg Osby, Skip Roberts with BluesWing, Piney Brown, Stanley Turrentine, Charles Frambrough, Hamiet Bluiett, Kevin Eubanks, Mike Stern, Geri Allen, Nasheet Waits and many others. Kevin toured Europe with Leon Thomas as musical director.

Kevin teaches children and adults at all levels and has been a faculty member of The National Guitar Workshop, The New School, SUNY New Paltz, and the HIlton Music Centre.

Kevin's most recent recordings are: 'Soliloquy' , solo guitar arrangements of jazz standards. 'About The Soul', with Ed Wiley Jr., Ben Riley, and Jimmy Ponder, where Kevin scored all of the arrangements and wrote one of the tunes, and 'Theory and Practice', with Mike Gillispie, Nasar Abadey, and Pepe Gonzales.

Kevin resides in New York City, where he has been playing the jazz scene for several decades and leads his own group BluesWIng.
